The brain is by far the most complex organ of the body which means that most disorders of the nervous system remain poorly understood and lack effective treatments.

The majority of brain disorders have a genetic basis and advances in technology driving our understanding of the human genome are also accelerating the diagnosis and knowledge of brain disorders.

Our lab uses a broad range of technologies to develop and test novel treatments for devastating brain disorders based on a deep understanding of the molecular pathology.

The focus of our laboratory is on neurodevelopmental disorders that manifest during childhood but that have lifelong and often severe consequences.

We benefit from being embedded within the Patrick Wild Centre, a large and vibrant institute dedicated to understanding and treating neurodevelopmental disorders.  We also benefit from the outstanding range of expertise in molecular and cell biology, medicine and other sciences at Edinburgh University.
